作曲：Orland Gibbons/オーランド・ギボンズ（1583 〜1625） 英国の作曲家。ケンブリッジ・キングズ・カレッジ聖歌隊で兄エドワードによって音楽の基礎を学び、1605年、王室礼拝堂のオルガニストとなった。22年にはオックスフォード大学の学位を授与される。英国国教会の音楽、ことにウイリアム・バード（1543-1623）が確立したヴァースアンセムの一層の展開に貢献した。 歌詞： This is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him: Who art thou? and he confessed and denied not, and said plainly : I am not the Christ. and they asked him: What art thou then? Art thou Elias? and he said: I am not, Art thou the prophet? and he answer'd: No. Then said they unto him: What art thou? that we may give an answer unto them that sent us.
